Carole's Corner on Technology airs on 900 AM WURD each Wednesday,

Carole I. Smith, producer and host, is the President and CEO of The
Workforce 2000 Initiative, and DigitalSistas.net, an on-line network
for African American women in technology and new media, and Vice
President, Multi-Media Concepts, Inc.
Through Workforce 2000, she has developed and implemented numerous
workforce development and IT education and training programs for
youth and adults, and serves as the Philadelphia Coordinator for
Black Family Technology Awareness Week, a national program sponsored
by Career Communications, Inc. and IBM. Both Workforce 2000 and
Multi-Media Concepts, Inc. are authorized resellers of the
International Computer Driving License Program (ICDL), the only
computer user certification program recognized worldwide.
Credited with focusing the City of Philadelphia on the importance of
technology in shaping the city's 21st century economy, Carole has
served as the Executive Director of the Mayor's Commission on
Technology (MCOT), City of Philadelphia since 1996. Her article
"Technology For Your Practice: Ready -- And Essential -- Today," was
published in Minority Health Today, an official publication of the
Minority Health Professions Foundation, and she co-authored Chapter
16, "Impact of Technology on Allied Health" in a book, Allied
Health: Practice Issues and Trends in the New Millennium.
Recently inducted into the 3E Institute's Educator 500 Program at
West Chester University, as an entrepreneurial educator, Carole was
one of 50 women selected by the Pennsylvania Commission for Women's
2006 inaugural Role Model Book, "Voices." In 2004 she was inducted
into the Temple University League for Entrepreneurial Women's Hall
of Fame: Recognizing Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Excellence in
the Community; and in 2002 appointed a Fellow at the Temple
University Fox School of Business and the 2002 Special Recognition
Award for Women of Color in Science & Technology,
A columnist for The Neighborhood Leader, a community newspaper, from
1997 - 2001, she produced and hosted a public affairs program for
cable television, "Technology and You: Another Point of View" to
demystify technology for the general public, and in 2003 launched a
webcast/cable TV program, "Philadelphia's Got IT (PGIT)" for the
Mayor's Commission on Technology. PGIT showcases public, private and
community IT and related technical activities and is viewable on
Comcast, the City Government and School District Cable Channels and
MCOT's website, http://mcot.phila.gov, 24/7 where all programs are
archived.
Carole is the President of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the
National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA), a member of
the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Board of Trustees of
the Community College of Philadelphia; Board of Directors of the
American Women's Heritage Society and National Urban Fellow, Inc.;
Advisory Council, Mayor's Office of Community Services; and former
member of the National Board for Women in Medicine, and WYBE Channel
35, a public television station.
Educated at Yale University, Occidental College and Temple
University, Carole has a M.S. in Public Administration.
